Y.F. Silva obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering in 2011 from the Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia). He later earned his M.Sc. in Engineering with an emphasis on Materials Engineering in 2015 from the same institution, and his Ph.D. in Engineering (Materials Engineering) in 2020 (with honors). He is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Construction Engineering of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research focuses on the development of sustainable construction materials, particularly on the valorization of industrial and construction wastes (such as copper slag and construction and demolition waste) for their use in concrete and advanced cementitious materials. His work includes the design of eco-efficient concretes, alkali-activated materials, and geopolymers, as well as the evaluation of their mechanical performance, durability (under sulfate attack, chloride ingress, and carbonation), and environmental behavior.
