Prof. Dr Diego Calvetti is an Assistant Professor at the School of Civil Construction, Faculty of Engineering, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Nowadays, he serves as Chair of the Human-Data Interaction (HDI) Committee of the European Council on Computing in Construction (EC3).
He qualified first as a Building Technician, then as a Civil Engineer, completed a Master of Science in Industrial Construction, and subsequently earned a PhD in Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP) in 2021. He has been a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) by PMI since 2011. With over 23 years of professional experience in project management across mega-engineering projects exceeding USD 1 billion, Dr Calvetti bridges academic research with industrial practice.
He is an integrated member of the CONSTRUCT/GEQUALTEC research unit at FEUP, where he also served as Assistant Director of the MBUILD Erasmus Mundus Master's program. Additionally, Calvetti is a member of the DIGIfeup3DC research group at FEUP, dedicated to 3D printing and modular construction. He is also a Collaborative Researcher at the National Centre of Excellence for the Wood Industry (CENAMAD) in Chile. He currently supervises four PhD students in BIM, Lean, and industrialised construction.
Prof Calvetti currently leads the 'Construction LAB 5.0: Digital tools to enhance Construction Sites, focusing on improved Productivity, Health, and Safety' project, funded by AVANZA UC. CoLAB 5.0 addresses the challenge of accelerating Chile's transition toward Construction 5.0 by integrating technological innovation, digital ethics, and educational transformation.
Calvetti's research focuses on digital transformation in construction, including Electronic Performance Monitoring (EPM), Human-Data Interaction (HDI), Digital Product Passports (DPP), Digital Twins (DTw), openBIM, and Construction 5.0.
