Profile

Daniel Antonio Linares García, Ph.D., is a Researcher and Academic Professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he leads the Construction Technology research and education curricula spanning Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), and digital transformation. His scholarship sits at the intersection of the built environment, human computer interaction, cyber physical systems, and construction technology, with pioneering contributions to voice first, AR/VR, and multimodal productivity support systems for the industry.
Daniel earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning, an M.Eng. in Computer Sciences and Applications, and an M.Sc. in Construction Engineering and Management, all from Virginia Tech, following a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de El Salvador. During his doctoral work he developed the Voice Based Intelligent Virtual Agent (VIVA) system, which has become a foundational reference in AEC informatics research.
His accomplishments have been recognized through prestigious distinctions, including a Fulbright Scholarship, the Microsoft TechSpark Fellowship, the AGC Robert L. Bowen Industry Residency Initiative, and competitive grants from Chilean and U.S. institutions. As a Microsoft TechSpark Fellow, he managed a 100,000 dollar program that delivered STEM and digital construction curricula to more than 160 underserved middle school students in Florida.
Daniel previously served as a professor at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he created new courses in BIM and VDC and coached student teams in national construction competitions. He is the founder of ProActive, a consulting firm advancing digital transformation in infrastructure projects, and serves as a peer reviewer for leading journals including Automation in Construction and the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management.
