Profile

Professor Gerardo Araya-Letelier holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Stanford University, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Civil Construction from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research and teaching interests are centered on two primary areas: (i) the design and physical –mechanical –damage characterization of civil engineering materials, with a particular focus on the incorporation of valorized industrial and post-consumer waste in alignment with circular economy principles; and (ii) the design and evaluation of civil engineering structures through performance-based earthquake engineering and life-cycle assessment methodologies, with an emphasis on enhancing structural resilience and reducing collapse risk, economic losses, and service disruption across the infrastructure’s lifespan.
